The merciless bombardment of Gaza by the Israeli government and military, which began on December 26 and which has already killed over 400 Palestinians and wounded thousands of civilians including women and children, constitutes a crime against humanity.

 

The Communist Party of Canada strongly condemns this barbarian attack and calls upon the U.N. and other international organizations to demand that Israel immediately cease this onslaught, lift the blockade of Gaza and abandon any further military action, including a land invasion of this sovereign Palestinian territory. We also demand that Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon and the Canadian government reverse its position justifying this cruel and illegal aggression, and instead speak out unequivocally against the genocidal policies of the Zionist regime in Israel.

 

Finally, our Party urges all labour, peace and other civic and people’s movements and democratic forces across Canada to express their solidarity with the Palestinian people, to condemn these war crimes and to demand an immediate halt to the massacres of innocent people, and an end the Israeli occupation – the necessary pre-condition for any just and durable peace in the region.
