Statement issued June 9 by the Communist Party of Canada (Ontario), calling on the federal and provincial governments to immediately intervene to block the planned closure of the GM truck plant in Oshawa

Justice for Aboriginal Peoples! Support May 29 protests!

Statement from the Central Executive Committee and Aboriginal Peoples Commission of the Communist Party of Canada

Reflecting the rising strength of grassroots Aboriginal movements, a second annual “National Day of Action” has been called on May 29 by the Assembly of First Nations. The AFN’s Call reflects the just demands of Treaty‑status nations on reserves. For us, the Day is a welcome opportunity to support the AFN’s Call and to raise a larger discussion involving all Aboriginal peoples in the land called Canada, status and non‑status alike.

Defeat Back to Work Legislation!
Defend Free Collective Bargaining and the Right to Strike!

Communist Party (Ontario) leader Elizabeth Rowley today condemned Liberal legislation to send striking TTC workers back to work, and called on the NDP to vote against the legislation and to defend the right to strike in Ontario.

“Local 113 of the Amalgamated Transit Union is one day into a legal strike. There is absolutely no justification for back to work legislation, and we call on the government to withdraw the legislation and on the opposition parties to vote against it,” said Rowley.

Good Enough To Work! Good Enough To Stay!

Bill C-50 was written by the Tories for the employers, and the large national and trans‑national corporations. The Bill is about giving the Immigration Minister and Cabinet arbitrary and sweeping new powers to slash immigration and to grow a giant pool of temporary foreign workers, effectively eliminating labour laws and protections for an ever‑larger part of the working class.

DEFEND EQUALITY RIGHTS, DEFEAT THE TORIES
IWD 2008 statement from the Communist Party of Canada

For almost a century, IWD has been a day to unite and mobilize for the right to vote, reproductive choice, labour rights, protections against violence, improved social programs, and opposition to homophobia, racism and xenophobia. But today, decades of hard-won gains are under fire from profit-hungry corporations, fundamentalist groups, and right-wing governments. The defence of women's equality rights is an essential part of the struggle to stop the Tory/corporate attack on working people and to defeat the Harper government at the polls.

CANADA'S DEBACLE IN BALI: NOW, DEFEAT THE HARPER ECO-CRIMINALS!

By resisting progress towards desperately‑needed world action against the impact of catastrophic climate change, the Harper Conservatives are rapidly giving Canada a global reputation as a country governed by eco‑criminals. It is no exaggeration to state that by attempting to sabotage the United Nations Climate Change Conference (held in Bali from Dec. 3 to 14), PM Harper and Environment Minister John Baird were committing a grave crime against humanity. Fortunately, a massive outpouring of anger by Canadians and the international community compelled Baird to withdraw formal objections to the conference call for 25 to 40 per cent cuts in greenhouse‑gas (GHG) emissions by wealthy countries by the end of the next decade.

Communist Party of Canada Central Committee Meeting - December 8 - 9, 2007

The political whirl often slows down in December, but not this year. The eyes of the world were on Venezuela and Russia on December 2, and then on Bali, where the UN Climate Change Conference kicked off the next day. Here in Canada, the big news included Karlheinz Schreiber's scandal testimony in Ottawa, and the Dec. 7-8 CAW Council meeting in Toronto, where the union leadership's controversial deal with Magna was endorsed despite some sharp opposition during a day-long debate

On the Ninetieth anniversary of Great October

Ninety years ago, the Great October Socialist Revolution of 1917 gave birth to a new society in which humanity’s most advanced dreams of peace, equality and democracy began to flourish and become reality. The revolution signalled the opening of the epoch of the transition to socialism, a society which would end exploitation, plunder and war, and construct a whole new kind of social relations based on cooperation, not competition, and based on social justice, not social, national or gender inequalities and oppression. Capitalism’s unchallenged rule over the world was over.

The Harper government’s appointment of a five-member panel to review Canada’s role in Afghanistan is a cynical, transparent ploy designed to cover its intentions to extend Canada’s occupation of that country beyond the February 2009 deadline for withdrawal, says Communist Party of Canada in a statement issued today.

Communist Party condemns xenophobic, racist campaign around ‘voting rights’ issue
Sept 12th, 2007

The Communist Party of Canada expresses deep dismay at the attempts to whip up racism and xenophobia around the rights of veiled Muslim women to vote in upcoming federal by-elections. Unlike the Harper Tories and the other parties represented in Parliament, which have all jumped on this issue in an opportunist manner, the Communist Party condemns the bigots who are waging this campaign, and defends the right of Muslim women who choose to wear the veil to cast their ballots..

Responding to the crisis: labour's challenge
Sept 3rd, 2007

Labour Day 2007 Message from the Central Trade Union Commission, Communist Party of Canada. This Labour Day, 2007, the non-corporate strata of the Canadian population, most of whom are working class, are poised on the cusp of a social haemorrhage potentially more terrible than the Depression and suffering of the 1930s. The emerging blueprints for social plunder on the drafting boards of neo-cons, inspired by US imperial corporate agendas and served by aspiring neo-pawns in Mexico and Canada, are a dire threat to our sovereignty, our jobs, our social programs and world peace. The over 250,000 manufacturing jobs lost since NAFTA (50,000 since January this year), and the loss of more than 20,000 forest-related BC jobs in the last twenty years, are merely an indicator, the tip of the iceberg of the social blood-letting on the agenda if the corporate plans are not derailed.
