The Communist Party of Canada has a proud history of fighting for democracy in Canada. Our party has twice been made illegal, with leaders jailed, and sucessfully overcome these restrictions on democracy. The Communists were the first political party to advocate for proportional representation, adopting that posistion almost fiftey years ago. Reciently, the Communists made history with the Figueroa case, re-defining the legal role and status of a political party in Canada.
We call to expand democracy:
- Enact proportional representation and democratic electoral reform;
- Adopt a Labour Bill of Rights to guarantee the rights of workers to organize, bargain collectively, take political action, and strike
